Same thing happened to me, I wasn't paying attention, too excited to use the weapon and hop into battle but instead it deleted my waston rifle. Idk why right click is the default key for discard or delete.

I wish there's a buyback but nah, because of this I lost interest in the game anyways.

Suppose to be the right click from your mouse will instantly equip the weapon instead of prompted you to discard or delete the item. I would say it is the most dumbest default control for item discard ever made in game. IGN: Jace
